Goodbye from us!

Well this blog has provided me the opportunity to heal, express, and publish what is my family. I enjoyed capturing my girls experiences and I will continue, but I don't plan on making them public. This began three years ago with my divorce. I herd today, not for the first time, "you don't know what you've got until it is gone". This has never felt more real in my life than these last three years. This blog has helped me cope with the pain, fear, and sadness of loosing a close relationship with a very special loved one. This blog has captured many milestones on my way to closure. I will leave it be, I will reflect yet again in life's next big lesson. This blog has also been a great way for me to capture peoples perspective's that help show my beliefs. This I will miss most. So why stop? I feel it has in a bad way been a pacifier of some sorts and that is why I am choosing to let it go.
I have grown as a person, father, and son. When I started on my spiritual journey I had many questions. Most have answered themselves. What I am left with is a 32 year old body, a broken heart, a clear conscience, and a loving spirit. May God reveal himself to you in many ways, and may you seek Her always.

May the blessings of God be upon you, the blessings of the Father and the Son and may the Spirit of love, the Spirit of Peace be with you all your days!

Anyway...Whatever!

I found what might be a valuable stone in my pond of understanding. Having the luxury and gift of intimate conversations with close friends, and even strangers, I have uncovered "a tell" in the women's psyche. Like a seasoned poker player might notice the rapid blinking of the eyes when an opponent is bluffing, I noticed how often "whatever" and "anyway" are used to stop their approach to vulnerability. It is used as a segue or change in direction. Women have mastered the use of "anyway" and "whatever". I consider this revelation very valuable and recognize it is not truth or diagnosis, so I am not creating an absolute. It is simply an observation that has meaning to me.
These two words are what I would described as doorways to a woman's core. Core being a very generic word for what might be described as soul, center, heart, or weak spot. But because there is a door does not necessarily mean it can or is meant to be opened. So finding the tell is not the valuable stone but being allowed to open the door is. It is an honor and a luxury to even been shown the door.
So pay attention for the use of whatever and anyway because it might be an opportunity to experience depth. Anyway, Whatever :)

Shady Lakes!

This week Elena had a class field trip to shady lakes. Shady lakes is a little recreation area that has several small lakes (more like ponds) that are stocked with trout. Her class had a full day at this little place. Since Veronica will not have a her day at Shady lakes because they are going to a different school next year, I decided to take her along. The day started at 9:00 in the morning with the anxiousness of both the parents and the kids rising. It was great to see all the parents participating.
I signed in at the school and checked Veronica out of class. She was really excited to go. Then I walked up stairs to Elena's class and she was worried because she forgot her ball cap. She gets that from me, both the worry and forgetfulness. She ended up going back to get it, so things worked out. Off she went to get on this really nice travel bus. Shady lakes is a couple miles out of Albuquerque's city limits and the parents met the bus there.
Once the kids were all instructed by a worker from the rec area it was time to fish. We were only allowed to catch one fish. This wasn't hard to understand being that the ponds are stocked to the gills with trout who bite at everything and anything. So Elena fished first and the bait of choice was salmon eggs. She slowly put three salmon eggs on her hook and tossed the bait into a strategically chosen shady area. Sure enough within a minute her bobber disappeared. Her pole didn't have a real so she simply plucked the fish from the water. She was excited and her screaming blended into the rest of the chaos that surrounded us. Next was Vero's turn. She did the same thing except her fish nibbled and she pulled too soon and the first time it got away. I put one more salmon egg on the hook and she was good to go.
They both caught fish within 15 minutes. The rest of the day was spent enjoying the park and working on a handout. We had a nice lunch and some popsicles. It was good field trip.

Bless Me Anaya

I went to the grand opening of the Zimmerman library today and what do you know. The one and only Rudolfo Anaya presented the president a copy of his latest book. Mr Anaya is a significant indirect contributor to my pursuit of education.
So some background. I had never finished a book until high school. What that means is that I had read books but never read a book from cover to cover. I had always found a way to fill in gaps or endings. Like when I did a book report on the natural. I didnt know that the ending was totally opposite in the movie. Well my teacher did :) Anyway his book "Bless me ultima" was the first book I actually read. While a sophomore in high school a teacher suggested I read "Bless me ultima". I guess because of my brown skin ;) So, completing this book led to other books like "Heart of Aztlan" and "A Chicano in China". This concept of reading took me by total surprise and led to something greater....academic inspiration. Okay enough background.
Back at the grand opening all the hoop la is carried out I went looking for him but no luck. I wanted to meet him. So I am in line for some cake and I saw him live and in person sitting maybe twenty feet from me. At last I got to meet yet another of my many inspirations.
