Hello,
The fall has been good. Albuquerque is home again. I am seeing it change. It is trying to get trendy, but its true heritage and chicano roots will not let go. It is clear to see the cultures passing each other by without one expressing any interest in the other. People move hear from overcrowded cities bringing with them there need for class. While some New Mexicans sense this and try and make sure they can ride this trend. Some looking to fill their pockets, others pretending they belong. Our culture has become a comodity. Our culture was once truly meaningful to our lifestyle and it is slowly becoming a business plan. Our foods are being fusioned by chefs. What we find in the fridg is a delicacy around town. The new money brings with it order. Our bosque has new beautiful trails for joggers and bikers. Families are slowly being moved out by increases in housing prices. Areas of town that are mature and cultured are being taken over by outsiders. Outsiders looking for a place to die. They fix it all up with new plaster and a capitalist attitude. Are the smiles scincere or just part of the business plan. On the other side of the tracks, those people ignorantly live like yesterday. Same old problems different year. They get thrown a new park here and there. A super Wal-Mart becomes life's next best thing. They dont struggle for knowledge or prosperity. Drugs and crime thrive in a people who have lost sight of dreams. Gangs are the universities that teach our boys to be men. I find it hard to be bitter or frustrated. I think it is just a matter of being. Both sides are care free and unappreciative of Albuquerque. I am stuck in between.
